I told you this town was good. Sideboard $25, Wardrobe $70. They both need a little bit of love, but the sideboard is genuine 70's laminate (mmm!) and is exactly what I was looking for for the living room. If anyone has any fantastic ideas about how to make it looks a little less shabby lemme know! The wardrobe is for the guest room to store bedding, our winter coats and a little space for guests too. It has beautiful drawers inside and awesome bakelite handles. *love* Soon enough I'll show you them in situ, the guest room is getting a major overhaul this week (so far its been the I-dont-know-where-to-put-this-so-I'll-put-it-in-here room) and we are almost done getting rid of the bleurgh beige/brown/olive trims in the living room.

I'm a little green and a little addicted to old furniture! Oh the stories they could tell! As far as jazzing them up - don't listen to me - I add bling to everything and it doesn't always end up, how should I say, ... better. Your house is coming along lovely though!!!
ReplyDeleteTa WATD, so sweet of you to say! *s*
Deletethat side board for 25- amazing!! I love it and have been dreaming of one the same for years but they are always too expensive!

Thanks for stopping by Zara (what a beautiful name you have!) Bargain-tastic! *s*
DeleteOh my I remember having pieces like that in our homes when I was a kid. In fact I even used to have a wardrobe similar
ReplyDeleteThanks MVV, Ive always loved this style of wardrobe, and its good to recycle :) *s*
DeleteWe have a very similar laminate sideboard that we use for a tv cabinet...it was missing a small piece of laminate so we filled it in and painted it white. Not bad for a giveaway piece.
ReplyDeleteI have that same style wardrobe that I want to use for my craft supplies, just deciding whether to paint it or not.
Nice scores :)
the old to paint or not to paint debate! It's a tricky one! My hubby is firmly on the don't paint it side, I could go either way! *s*
DeleteVery, very cool. I really love that sideboard. I've been looking for one but haven't had much luck. Can't wait to see them when they're fixed up!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laurie! Me too! *s*
DeleteI love the curvy details at the top of that wardrobe!
ReplyDeleteso fun and old fashioned, I love it! Thanks for saying hi BeckyKay. *s*
DeleteGreat finds! You can get special laminate primer and laminate paint from Bunnings. We used it to paint the laminate cupboards in our kitchen. We are really happy with the result, although there are a few chips in the paint now. That said, the kitchen is a high traffic area and I'm clumsy and bump into things all the time.
ReplyDeleteOhhh good tip Ange, ta *s*
DeleteOh. my. goodness. $25???!!!??? That is a steal. I have hunted for one for a long time, but they go for so much more in Dallas. Sometimes at estates, if they aren't swiped up, we can find deals close to that, but not quite!
ReplyDeleteI know! Such a bargain. I'd been in the previous day and it was $40, but I needed to measure the space before I could buy it, then I came in and it was so cheap! I think they need the floor space and just wanted to get rid of it! I've seen them around for heaps more money too. Thanks for stopping by Trina. *s*
DeleteAWESOME!
ReplyDeleteVery cool finds! Can't wait to see these in their final spot!
