Reading material...

I've just finished my awesome stack of books I received for Christmas. Now I'm onto the penguin classic that was on the shelf. It's called 'And the ass saw the angel' by Nick Cave... it's a bit odd, but I'm intrigued non the less.
Recommended reading from my chrissy books are:
The Book Theif by Markus Zusak. Oh my. I don't think I've ever cried so much! An absolutely wonderful, magical way of story telling. And one of the more original books I've ever read.
The Memory Keepers Daughter by Kim Edwards. Lovely sad sweet story, well written.
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. Again a really lovely, fun and drama filled story. The structure is a bit obvious and clunky for me, but a beautiful sentiment and original tale.
Black Swan Green by David Mitchell. This author can do no wrong for me. I love his style. He's different and original and quirky without being a wanker. This story conjured up so many vivid teenage memories.

Get into 'em.

  1. "he's different and quirky and original without being a wanker" that was so unexpected and made me laugh very loudly for a very long time!

  2. Ah love "And the Ass Saw the Angel" - very dark, wry, and biblically brutal - exactly what you might expect from Nick Cave, but in a different form than what you may be used to.

I wasn't a fan of "Water for Elephants" nor "The Memory Keepers Daughter", but I'm definitely adding "The Book Thief" to my reading list.

    My reading recommendations are:

"The Time Travellers Wife" - a beautiful piece of escapism. Don't overthink it, simply enjoy the tale.

Anything by Alessandro Baricco, but in particular "Ocean Sea". It's only short, and very easy to read, but truly magnificent. A lyrical, poetic, allegorical, original, marvel.
It's impossible to over state how great this book is.

  4. Cheers Sophie, I love a good book recommendation. As I've started research and I have HEAPS more time on my hands I'm looking for some good reads. Keep'em coming. And how good is today for staying at home! We had a hot lunch and watched awesome trashy daytime tv. So much cozy love. Hope you had a sweet resty bakefest.
