It's hard to keep this side of the room tidy and nice for a picture (bed making, clothes folding, bleurgh) , but my headboard made from fairy lights always looks pretty. They are kinda shaped like theatre curtains, and since the boy isn't into 4 poster beds (neither is our narrow curvy staircase for that matter) this is as close as I'll get to a dramatic queenly chamber for now. I'm all about the little twinkely lights, they make me happy.
It only took four small nails in the wall, plus a couple of cable ties to make them stay. I used a pack of 200 lights.
