I've seen lots of nice pictures of peoples bedside tables and what they are reading recently. Here's my contribution!
Charlotte Grey has been on my 'to read' list for ages. I was given the Bicycle Book for my birthday and have already flicked through the pictures in the middle, can't wait to get stuck in. And the David Mitchell I sneakily got signed at the writers festival. I accosted David when he was speaking at my theatre in a back corridor!
I keep little bits like lip balm in the teacup next the bed, and on the other side of the nightstand... the perfect corner to store wrapping paper in a share house!

Shameless self promotion that is...
Please come see our play. It's on next week. Bring kids 8 and up (or a bit younger if they are tough and don't mind scary robots). And if you don't have kids please come anyway! That's my boy in the picture up there, and I am doing the lights for the show as well as "cracking the whip" (technically known as the production manager)...

Things to be thankful for
* The live animal export ban.
* Birthday love from my boy and housies and family and friends and you'se all too.
* The work that is coming to me since leaving my job.
* Raspberries. The best berry in my opinion.
* The amount of scarves I own. I don't know how I got so many but it makes dressing for this weather a whole lot funner. (yes funner.)
* That I'm getting really good at changing bicycle tyres.
* Falling asleep holding hands with my boy.
* The bananas that are in our freezer. Gold. (Bananas are $16/kilo in Oz at the moment)
* Even when I can't find time to write anything on my blog, I do find time to read others.
* Living in a place where running out of milk, bread, wine only takes minutes to fix as the shops are so close.
* Scientists. They know so much stuff that I would never know how to find out otherwise!

oh hai...
Okay so I hate that spelling of 'hi' but it does seem to articulate the sheepishness with which I want to convey that hello. I'm sorry my lovelies I seem to have gotten a wee bit caught up in turning a year older, quitting my job and preparing to begin another, working somewhere without internet this week, and oh yes - putting on a play!
If you're a Sydneysider please do come see our show Aleksander and the Robot Maid at the Seymour centre.... it's for kids 8 and up and stars my stunning husbando and twinkely lights by me! Actually, if you're not a Sydneysider then you should still come... I just don't expect it as much *beam*
So my office has moved in with my boy's (in our bedroom). I have a camping table, the corners of which cut into my thighs. Our bookshelves have become my pin board and basically my crap is everywhere. But I'm pretty stoked. The last few nights I've been in bed at around 10pm. Normally I still have another hour to go at work at that time. I've been booking little bits of work here and there and already I have been reacquainting myself with my friends. Long lost and neglected friends. Relationships that need the dust blown off, and a warm cup of coffee placed in their hands and a smile shared across a table in real life. Real Life. I've made dinner, and dessert. TWICE.
How are you all?
Ps. All the American and English blogs I read are killing me with their summer activities!
{Photos of my "new" office space, please forgive the 'Keep Calm' poster... but it's about baking and I couldn't help myself. And the Sophie/Pear picture is by a dear friend}

Twenty Six.
Twenty six. It's gonna be better than twenty five, that's for sure. It hasn't been a bad year, but it sure ain't been an easy one. There is so much change and uncertainty ahead I've realised I have no choice but to embrace it head on. You know what, I never thought I'd say this but I'm finally starting to feel like a grown up... okay, just some of the time...

Siren song
Some dear friends of mine where lucky (read: organised) enough to book tickets to see the marvelous Bat For Lashes at the opera house this week. They said she was amazing. I'd believe it for sure. I can't get enough of her. Catchy enough to move to, emotional enough to give you goosebumps, talented enough to make you (me) quite quite green with envy.

Cake.
I've got cake on the brain. There are things to celebrate and for me celebration must come with cake. That's normal right? These beauties are all from here. And I would gladly blow out candles on any/all of them. Blueberry and lemon? YUM. Mascarpone and merinague? Hell yes! Crazy good icing skills? Oh my.

Todays list of first world problems...
* Eh. It's Monday.
* A different barista being in and my morning coffee therefore not being as good as usual.
* Someone not replacing the loo roll once they'd used it up.
* Realising that I will no longer be entitled to free tickets to shows in a weeks time when I leave my job.
* My slice of pie in my lunch tupperware getting all mangled on the way in.
* Having to catch a bus instead of ride my bike (puncture).
Yep. It's a tough life.

Things to be thankful for*
* ONE more week left at work.
* Days off.
* That things get made in places where manufacture is cheap and I can therefore afford to have nice things like a computer, phone etc.
* All those people at the climate rally in Sydney today. (Yes, even the crazy hippies *wink*)
* It's my birthday this week and that means CAKE !
* The sweet countdown on our chalk board by my housemate.
* The way plants can grow and spread all by themselves.
* My boy stays up to hug me when I get home from work really late at night.

A bubble machine!
Last night the boy and I went and saw 'The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer' at the Darlo, I missed it last year at the Seymour Centre, so I was stoked it had come back to Sydney.
Some words for ya: animation, puppets, whimsical, low-fi, ukelele, ridiculous-moustache (yes it's one word), bubble machine. Yes. That's right. Bubble machine!!! Go see it. It's how theatre should be short (45mins), oh so sweet, funny and sad. It's on until the 11th of June at the Darlinghurst Theatre.
Ps. This is not sponsored or any of that stuff...
